  3. of various countries. In the UK the 
  4. equivalent of the Speaker in the House of 
  5. Lords is the Lord Chancellor. In the House of 
  6. Commons the Speaker is elected for each 
  7. parliament, usually on an agreed basis among 
  8. the parties, but often holds the office for 
  9. many years.
